Law Society backs fixed legal costs for holiday sickness claims

17 th July 2017

The Law Society has stated it does not oppose the Government's plans to crackdown on fraudulent holiday sickness claims by limiting the amount of legal costs that can be recovered from claims coming from foreign holidays. President Joe Egan said "we do not oppose the principle of fixed costs", but warned that in cracking down on "dodgy business practices" ministers should be careful not to penalise genuine or more complex claims. The Law Society's stance is at odds with claimant law firms who oppose the Government's plans.
